How to read a cricket scorecard

A score written 245/6 means the batting team has made 245 runs and lost 6 wickets. The number in brackets, such as (48.2), is the overs bowled so far, where .2 means two balls into the 49th over.

Batting columns

R is runs scored, B is balls faced, 4s and 6s are boundaries, and SR is strike rate, calculated as runs divided by balls faced multiplied by 100. A star next to a batter, like 56*, means not out.

Bowling columns

O is overs, M is maidens (overs with no runs conceded), R is runs conceded, W is wickets and Econ is economy rate, the runs conceded per over.

Extras

Extras are runs not scored off the bat: wides (w), no-balls (nb), byes (b) and leg byes (lb). They add to the team total but not to any batter.

Fall of wickets

This line shows the team score when each wicket fell, for example 1-34 (Smith, 5.2 ov). It makes partnerships easy to read at a glance.
